Grow a Garden Beginner's Guide
Grow a Garden is one of the biggest games on Roblox, and it is easy to see why: you plant seeds, watch them grow, sell the harvest and slowly turn a patch of dirt into a garden worth a fortune. This guide covers everything a new gardener needs to know to grow faster.
How the game works
Every player in a server gets their own plot. The loop is simple:
- Buy seeds from Sam at the seed shop.
- Plant them in your plot and wait for them to grow.
- Harvest the fruit and sell it to Steven for Sheckles.
- Spend those Sheckles on better seeds, gear and eggs.
Each loop pays a little more than the last, and that is the whole game: grow your income until rare crops pay for themselves many times over.
Your first ten minutes
You start with very little, so begin with the cheapest seed, the carrot. Carrots are quick and cheap, and selling them gives you the Sheckles for your next step. Fill your plot, sell, and repeat a few times until you can afford a seed that keeps paying.
That next step is a multi-harvest plant. Single-harvest crops like carrots are gone once you pick them. Multi-harvest plants such as strawberries and blueberries stay in the ground and grow new fruit again and again, so you pay once and harvest many times.
Seed rarity: why expensive seeds are worth it
Seeds come in rarities, rising from Common through Uncommon, Rare and Legendary to Mythical and beyond. Rarer seeds cost a lot more but their fruit sells for far more, and many of them are multi-harvest. The seed shop restocks on a short timer, and the rarest seeds only show up in some restocks, which is why you will see players checking the shop every few minutes.
Weight: bigger is better
Every fruit shows its weight in kilograms. Heavier fruit of the same kind sells for more, so a lucky big harvest is worth celebrating. Use the Favorite tool on your best fruit so you never sell it by accident when you sell everything at once.
Mutations: where the real money is
Mutations are special traits that multiply a crop's value. Some come from luck as the plant grows, and many come from the weather:
- Wet from rain.
- Shocked when lightning strikes a crop during a thunderstorm.
- Chilled from frosty weather, and Frozen when a crop is both Wet and Chilled.
- Gold and Rainbow are rare growth mutations. Rainbow is worth much more than Gold.
Because mutations multiply value, a mutated rare crop can be worth more than a whole garden of carrots. That is why players keep valuable plants in the ground during weather events, and why a Lightning Rod, which attracts strikes, is so popular in storms.
Gear worth buying
The gear shop sells tools that speed things up:
- Watering Can: gives a plant a quick growth boost.
- Sprinklers: boost every plant in an area for a while. Place them in the middle of your best crops.
- Trowel: moves a plant to a new spot without losing it, perfect for tidying your layout.
- Favorite tool: protects fruit from accidental selling.
Pets
Eggs from the egg shop hatch into pets after a short wait in your garden. Equipped pets give passive bonuses, such as helping your plants grow or boosting what you earn. Rarer eggs have a better chance of rarer, stronger pets, so treat eggs as a long-term investment once your garden is earning.
Beginner mistakes to avoid
- Selling everything without checking. Favorite your heaviest and mutated fruit first.
- Filling the plot with single-harvest crops once you can afford multi-harvest ones.
- Spending every Sheckle instantly. Saving for one great seed often beats ten average ones.
- Trusting "free Sheckles" offers. Nobody needs your password to give you anything, in any game.
