Blox Fruits drops you into a pirate world of islands and seas, where you level up by fighting, take on bosses and choose how you want to fight: with a devil-fruit-style power, a sword, a gun or your fists. The choices you make in your first hours shape your whole run, so here is how to make good ones.

Pirate or Marine?

The first choice is your side. Pirates can fight other players more freely and are the classic choice. Marines can earn rewards for taking down pirates. Neither is wrong, and you can switch later, so pick whichever sounds more fun.

How levelling works

You level up by completing quests from quest givers on each island. A quest asks you to defeat a number of a particular enemy, and the rewards are experience and money. Each island suits a range of levels, so when quests start feeling slow, it is time to sail on.

The world is split into three seas. The First Sea is where everyone starts. Reaching the Second Sea and, later, the Third Sea opens new islands, tougher enemies and better gear. Getting into the Second Sea starts at level 700, and the Third Sea at level 1500.

Stat points: choose a main build

Each level gives you stat points to spend on five stats:

  • Melee: fighting styles and your energy.
  • Defense: your health.
  • Sword: sword damage.
  • Gun: gun damage.
  • Blox Fruit: fruit power damage.

The biggest beginner mistake is spreading points evenly. Pick a main damage stat, either Blox Fruit or Sword for most players, and put the rest into Melee and Defense so you have the energy and health to survive. You can reset stats later, but a focused build levels much faster.

Fruits: the three types

Eating a fruit gives you its abilities. Fruits come in three broad types:

  • Natural: varied powers, often with strong utility.
  • Elemental: elemental powers, many of which let attacks pass straight through you.
  • Beast: transform into a powerful creature form.

You can buy fruits from the Blox Fruit Dealer, whose stock changes regularly, or find them spawning around the world. Eating a new fruit replaces your old one, so don't eat every fruit you find.

Swords and fighting styles

Not every great player uses a fruit. Swords are sold by NPCs and dropped by bosses, and some of the best builds in the game are sword builds. Fighting styles such as Black Leg and Electro are learned from teachers and get better versions later on. Melee styles do not compete with your fruit, so learn one either way.

Haki

As you progress you can learn Haki: Enhancement, which strengthens your attacks, and Observation, which helps you dodge. Both make a huge difference in boss fights.

Boats and the sea

Buy a boat from a boat dealer to travel between islands. The sea is dangerous: Sea Beasts and other threats attack ships, so travel carefully until you are strong enough to fight back.
